July 17, 2010 Making it clear, I am against con games or as you put it “confidence crime” of any kind. Including the scamming of fortune telling schemes, that may be committed by a variety of people of various backgrounds. What ever the crime, whether committed by some large business or the lowly gypsy, such as myself. If a crime is committed then the perpetrator should be punished! It is sad, very sad though, when a crime that can and is committed by people of various nationalities or origins is tagged toward, the gypsies having an “inherently dishonest career” (A Con Man’s Mentality). Or to say that gypsies “often treat non-gypsies as "fair game for their fortune-telling, curse-lifting and other superstitious ministrations" as well as stigmatizing gypsies as if “It is the traditional trade of gypsy women the world over and throughout history.” (The Gypsies' Great Trick). I will not pretend that crimes perpetrated by Gypsies do not occur, but the same sort of crimes are also committed by others as well! As for my lowly background, I will attest that I know from first hand knowledge that the majority of gypsies do not do fortune telling of any kind. My profession is that of an elementary school teacher. My father was a construction worker, and my grandfather was a tinsmith. The ladies of my family where not fortune tellers. I believe that you also have the wrong notion as to why many gypsies choose the carrier of fortune telling! Not all of us lowly gypsies are involved in confidence crimes! One other note I am proud to be a gypsy. If the guysho (non-gypsy) chooses to look down at us, then I for one laugh at their ignorance. Thank you, Frank J. Ephraim San Bernardino, CA.

Any way for a retired Assistant DA to join? Marlock is an old friend of mine, and we've been out of touch too long. It's good to see that some still appreciate the work of the smartest criminals, the con men.
